Speedo has launched a new range of eco-friendly packaging for its SS09 goggles and headwear collection. The new packaging, which also includes improved product explanation and visibility and better product segmentation, uses recyclable cardboard sourced from managed forests. The environmentally-friendly approach continues to the goggles and headwear themselves; all products are 100% PVC free.

All goggle packaging is made from recyclable materials, with reusable goggle pouches partially constructed from swimsuit fabric cut offs. Astonishingly Speedo has cut 118 tons of PVC and 316 tons of plastic from the creation of its equipment packaging. Thanks to the use of cardboard from managed forests, Speedo’s new packaging also receives a badge of approval from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a major international non-profit agency promoting responsible management of the world’s forests.

In addition to the products being 100% PVC free, they all comply to Speedo’s Restricted Substance policy, ensuring no harmful substances used in their creation. Speedo is the only swim product manufacturer to cease use of plastic in its packaging construction.

Adding to the eco-credibility of the products and packaging, visibility, product access and retailer merchandising flexibility was integral in Speedo’s redesign process. All products were broken down into colour-coded segments for easy retailer display and the new packaging includes a hi-resolution product image on front of pack. This ensures the packaging remains neat and tidy in-store, should the customer remove the goggle to try it on.

Ease of display is made further possible through the inclusion of two Euro hooks on the packaging. This gives the retailer the option of hanging the packaging vertically or horizontally. The accompanying POS includes a new counter display unit with more prominent Speedo branding; shelf talkers and wobblers that clearly communicate features, benefits and product segmentation, which makes them ideal for smaller stores where space is a premium; and retailer showcards, which helps explain the different products to the retailer, enabling them to more effectively and promote specific products to their customers.

The ease of information and product explanation extends to the Kids range. All products are clearly separated into age groups and sizes, making the goggle selection and purchase easy and stress-free.

The new packaging will feature within the SS09 range.
