Lonsdale sponsored boxer James DeGale wins the British Super-Middleweight title

Lonsdale, the iconic British boxing equipment and apparel brand, is toasting the British Title success of James ';Chunky’ DeGale MBE, one of its stable of sponsored boxers which also includes recently victorious WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Carl Froch. James won the British Super-Middleweight title after defeating Paul Smith in the 9th round at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday 11th December.

DeGale (24) who won Olympic Gold in Beijing in 2008 has gone from strength to strength since turning professional.
Under the guidance of esteemed trainer Jim McDonnell, James has claimed the British Title in only his 9th professional fight.

It took Naseem 12 fights to land his first belt (the European bantamweight title), while Khan took 13 bouts (Commonwealth lightweight title). It also took Joe Calzaghe 14 bouts to claim the same belt as DeGale now
holds.

He defeated the incumbent champion Smith in his third defence of the title, proving that he is well on the way to
achieving his dream of becoming world champion.

James said: "Becoming British Super-Middleweight Champion and holder of the famous Lonsdale belt is a dream come true for me. My ability and talent was there for everybody to see. I am now well on the way of fulfilling my
ultimate dream of becoming World Champion."
