The new digital Peace One Day Citizenship Resource was launched today at the Petchey Academy in Hackney by founder Jeremy Gilley and actress Jaime Winstone. Students from the school took part in a classroom demonstration, learning how they could make a difference and help recognise one day a year when the planet lives in peace.

The new Peace One Day Citizenship Resource, launched in all UK secondary schools Key Stages 3 & 4, accompanies Gilley's award winning documentary The Day After Peace. Over 6000 schools now have the 19 student-centred lesson plans, approved by the National Curriculum, which includes subjects from drama and music through to sports, maths and science.

The Citizenship Resource aims to advance active learning in the areas of conflict resolution, global citizenship, human rights and the link between sustainability and peace, using Peace Day on 21st September as a focus.

Peace One Day is heavily supported by Kofi Annan and The Dalai Lama as well as brand ambassadors including: Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Brian Adams, Nicholas Hoult, Emilia Fox, Laurence Fox, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Chris Martin and many more.

EXAMPLE OF LESSON PLAN:

Make an End Bullying Advertisement
Lesson Aims: To put non-violence into action. To raise awareness of the anti-bullying campaign by filming adverts by students for students.
Learning Outcomes: Appreciate the role they can play in raising awareness and stopping bullying in their school. Identify at least two places, one within school and one outside school, where students can go to get help dealing with bullying

ABOUT PEACE ONE DAY

In 1999, film maker Jeremy Gilley embarked upon a mission that, 10 years later, would involve over 100 million people worldwide: PEACE DAY.

Gilley's initial mission to try and establish the first ever Day of Peace with a fixed calendar date was achieved in 2001 when member states of the UN unanimously adopted Peace Day as 21 September annually.

Since then, Peace One Day has continued to work with global organisations, including UNICEF & the World Health Organisation, to help secure the conditions in which life saving initiatives can take place on Peace Day.
