The Nuts TV Beach Soccer Tour rolled into the Isle of Wight over the weekend for two more days of top Beach Soccer action. Here we round up the results of the ongoing England Beach Soccer Super League!
Saturday 26 July
The weekend’s action kicked off with a game between the Bees and Santos.
Bees 6 v Santos 0
The Bees continued their excellent tournament form with a 6-0 drubbing of Santos. The Bees dominated possession and territory, scoring at will from all over the pitch!
Knights 3 v Spartans 0
While the Bees continue to be the team to beat, the Knights are also demonstrating an ability to put together some great performances. They started strongly, with Attwood beating two Spartans and taking the Knights into the lead. A counterattack by the Knights resulted in a second goal and a final nail in the coffin for the Spartans. A much better performance by Spartans once they upped their tempo, but Knights win the game 3-0.
Santos 4 v Sociedad 3 (AET and pens)
A true cliffhanger of a game, the two teams who have yet to really make a mark, Santos and Sociedad, faced off against each other. The first goal came from Sociedad’s Mitch Day. Failure to capitalise on further opportunities cost Sociedad when Santos equalised through Dan Squibb. Both teams wrestled for possession and chances until Sociedad again took the lead through Moulpied. Into the third period and Santos scored early through Squibb’s volley. Santos then began to dominate play, but Mitch Day scored again to make it 3-2 to Sociedad. Santos struck back for 3-3 and went on to win on penalties after extra time.
Sunday 27 July
An eagerly anticipated fixture between the Spartans and Bees launched the second day’s action.
Spartans 4 v Bees 3
In a shock upset, the Spartans beat the unbeaten Bees in a tense game. Both teams traded goals in the early period, with the Spartans leading 3-2 after the first. Late in the second period the Spartans let their lead slip, Giancarlo Giancovich scoring for the Bees. A late thunderbolt from Spartans’ Funnel sent the crowd and the Spartans into delirium – and saw the tournament leaders toppled for the first time.
Sociedad 3 v Knights 4
Another unfortunate loss for Sociedad, this time against one of the form teams. The Knights led 1-0 after the first period, but the dogged Sociedad team fought back to 3-3, before Tony Kerr missed two penalties for Sociedad, consigning them to yet another defeat.
Santos 4 v Spartans 3
A close and exciting match saw Squibb score twice for Santos, before Brenigan clawed one back for the Spartans, making it 2-1. Powell took Santos further in the lead with a left wing run and drive into the net and early in the second period, Santos went to 4-1 up. Then the Spartans drove in two more goals for a 4-3 nailbiter. Santos held on and recorded a gallant victory.
Bees 10 v Knights 3
Putting their shock loss against the Spartans behind them, the Bees found fifth gear against the Knights, netting ten times. It was one-way traffic in the first period, with the Bees up 3-0 within two minutes and the trend continued in the second period, with three further goals to the Bees. Despite the Knights scoring three times, a further four goals from the Bees meant the Knights’ armour, along with their confidence, was truly dented at the final whistle.
